- What is the competition?
The Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition is an annual event that recognizes and rewards outstanding teachers in Nigeria. This year’s edition is the 8th edition of the competition. To enter, simply fill out the online form on the Maltina website. The deadline for entries is March 31, 2024. Applications are judged by a panel of experts from across Nigeria, who will select 20 finalists to compete in person at the national finals in Lagos on May 10th, 2024. Winners will be announced at the ceremony that evening and receive their prize money. Additionally, winners have the opportunity to continue teaching or pursuing higher education. They also receive full coverage of expenses for one year’s worth of post-secondary education in any Nigerian university.

- General requirements
The Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition is an annual event that recognises and rewards excellence in teaching. To be eligible, teachers must be currently employed in a school registered with the Ministry of Education. They must also have been teaching for at least five years. Teachers will be evaluated on their knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy and discipline; as well as students’ learning outcomes and performance on standardized tests. Entrants are required to provide evidence for these criteria through lesson plans, transcripts from standardized testing, observations by supervisors or peers or other relevant documentation.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition is back for its 8th edition, and we’re looking for Nigeria’s best teachers! If you know a teacher who has made a difference in their students’ lives, nominate them now. It’s easy to enter – just fill out the online form with your nominee’s contact information and a short essay about why they deserve to win. The deadline to enter is March 31st, 2024. Winners will be announced in May 2024. Along with an award, winners will receive 5,000 Naira as well as a round-trip ticket to Barcelona for an all-expenses-paid trip. In addition, finalists from around the country will be invited to attend our prestigious annual ceremony on June 17th at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience awaits!

Enter now and you could be our next Maltina Teacher of the Year! In the past 7 editions, two secondary school English Language Teachers have been named as winners. However, this year we want to see primary school teachers compete too! For this reason, we’re announcing that there’s no age limit on who can enter, but it’s compulsory that contestants teach at least one of these subjects: Maths, Science or English.
For those who do not work with one of these subjects, don’t worry! There are other ways to win the competition by showing off their skills through various activities such as quizzes and speeches on relevant topics from any field.
